I BELIEVE FOOD WASTE CAN’T BE IGNORED ANY LONGER. WASTE IS SOMETHING TO WORK WITH. THAT’S WHY I BREW TASTEFUL ICED TEA FLAVORED WITH REJECTED FRUIT.
I ONLY EXIST BECAUSE THERE IS WASTE AND I’LL QUIT WHEN FOOD WASTE IS HISTORY.
JOIN ME AND TASTE THE WASTE.

1. The waste problem, is that a real thing?
It sure is. A third of all food produced is being wasted! The United Nations even made it one of their sustainable development goals to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.
Throughout the entire food chain food is being wasted, from producer to consumer. We see great opportunities on the consumer side to create awareness and influence this problem.
2. Where do you get the fruit?
We use fruit that’s being wasted by producers to brew our iced tea. All waste ThijsTea doesn’t buy is thrown out. There still is a lot of fruit to be saved.
3. Huh? But don’t you contribute to the problem as well?
It’s a fact that there’s a problem, we entirely agree with you on that. We see the problem and give wasted fruit a second a purpose. This way we don’t contribute to the food waste industry, but we use the fruit that would have been wasted otherwise. This way we create awareness with both both producers and consumers that food waste is something we can and should work with. We keep going until food waste is history.
4. Sounds like a serious problem, how does ThijsTea make the difference?
Since there currently is so much food waste we hardly make a dent. But everything helps. In other words, every bottle of ThijsTea that you drink makes a difference. We also want to inspire you to take part in our fight against food waste. We keep informing and activating you to take part in your own way. We’ll also show you ways to reduce your food waste at home.
5. OK, but you also make waste, right?
That’s true. And we try hard to keep it to a minimum. Our ThijsTea is bottled in a glass bottle and we use carton and plastic for transportation. And we have a healthy ambition to find more sustainable solutions.
We’re always on the lookout for other ways to do business in a more sustainable way. Our waste is being used as cattle feed. And they make limoncello out of our lemon peels.
Another cool thing is that we’ll be developing our point-of-sale materials with social work places so we can also contribute on a human level.
You can also reuse the bottle (maybe make a smoothie at home to drink on the train?). Do you have other ideas on how Thijs can minimise his waste and reuse certain items? Let us know!
6. Why do you only use fruit?
For now we’re focused on fruit because it’s most related to our product. But we love to experiment and surprise – just check out our flavors. Don’t be surprised when we start using vegetables and herbs in the near future.
7. How long is ThijsTea preservable for?
After production ThijsTea has a shelf life of at least 18 months. But we’ll stick around until all food waste is history.
8. Is ThijsTea lactose vegan proof, and lactore and gluten free?
You bet we are!
9. How much sugar does ThijsTea contain?
That depends on the flavor. But generally between 4 and 8%
10. What’s up with the stuff in the bottle that shows up after a while?
Don’t worry, that’s called pulp! It’s a residue from our production process. Remember we work with fresh ingredients, there’s always some evidence of that in our bottles. Just shake the bottle and it’s mixed again!
